No-Fault Insurance

In Hawaii, each driver’s insurance company will pay for treatment (such as massage therapy) of their injuries, regardless of who caused the accident. The minimum liability insurance required by law in Hawaii is $10,000 for a driver and each of his/her passengers and $20,000 per person/$40,000 per accident for third-parties (pedestrians and other drivers).

Massage Therapy and Auto Accident Injuries

Obvious and severe injuries suffered after a car accident, like broken bones, are treated in the emergency room. However, more subtle problems may need other types of bodywork (chiropractic, acupuncture, soft-tissue work, etc.), as they develop over time. Soft tissue injuries may be difficult to detect at the time of the accident and most likely manifest later as sore muscles, chronic headaches, a stiff neck, or other issues.

After you’ve been thoroughly evaluated, your physician or an ER doctor may recommend ongoing massage therapy to treat back pain, headaches, or other medical issues resulting from a car accident. Medical massage is covered by no-fault policies in Hawaii, and by most other medical insurance. Check with your provider for details.

Massage reduces pain and swelling after an accident. It increases circulation to injured areas, allowing them to heal faster. After initial inflammation has subsided, massage therapy can increase the stunted range of motion and flexibility experienced after an accident. Along with chiropractic, acupuncture, and physical therapy, massage can help to get your body back on track.

Visiting Red Earth Massage and Wellness can help prevent the side effects caused by relying on painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs to suppress symptoms after an auto injury.

At Red Earth, we’ll consider the extent of your injuries, preexisting medical conditions, your occupation, lifestyle, and other concerns to determine the best medical massage for your situation.

Massage Therapy Can Help With The Following Injuries

Whiplash: A sudden jerking of the head backwards or forwards during a car accident can damage the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscles in your neck. You use those muscles when you tilt your head or turn it from side to side. The sudden jerking movement experienced by many accident victims results in torn or stretched tendons, commonly known as whiplash. Using trigger point therapy, we can locate the source of muscle pain and help to alleviate it. Deep tissue massage may be needed for more persistent neck and back pain.

Trauma Relief: After your body is exposed to the trauma of a car accident, muscles may contract to protect themselves and keep joints in place. At Red Earth, we’ll use trigger point massage therapy to find tight and tender points of tension and help to release them, relieving pain. Swedish massage is also useful for restoring balance to your nervous system and reducing the ill effects or trauma.

Back Pain: A car collision may result in several types of back pain: either cervical, thoracic and lumbar pains, strains, and sprains. Your physician will examine you after the accident and if they see that it’s suitable, will give you a referral for massage therapy to treat muscle pain, soreness, or spasms. Depending on the severity of your injury, your massage therapist may use deep tissue massage on chronically tight muscles or locate a trigger point as the source of your discomfort. There are many ways to treat back pain using bodywork. Through one-on-one consultations and a look at your doctor’s recommendations, we can devise a treatment plan best suited for you.

Workman’s Compensation Massage

Businesses with one or more employees must carry workman’s compensation, per U.S. government requirements.  Worker’s comp pays for medical bills, lost income, and rehab for treatment of on-the-job injuries.

Note: Your physician needs to write a referral for medical massage, stating the reason for the massage therapy and the length of time treatment is needed.

At Red Earth, our therapists will choose the best type of massage for your injury to help on your road to recovery and return you to work sooner.
